Personal Statement

I am a general pediatrician with clinical expertise in the care of newborns and hospital medicine. My academic interests focus around graduate medical education. As Director of Pediatric Graduate Medical Education at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/ÈÕ±¾avÉ«ÇéƬ, I recognize that the realization of the promise of high-quality health care requires medical educators to challenge their learners not only to be excellent clinicians, but also to strive to reach new goals. The current health care arena demands not only individual clinical competence, but also requires the physician to act as part of an inter-professional team of experts and to understand the complexities of the health care system.

My role as an educator is to inspire learners to appreciate the importance of patient safety and quality improvement; knowing how to integrate measurement and improvement of patient care outcomes into daily work isessential for the physician of the future. I am proud to be part of a team that fosters an environment that promotes collaborative learning and that allows the physician learner to enter into the workforce understanding how to work effectively within the health care team for the good of the patient.
